Yellowstone National Park became the world's first National Park in 1872 and is located in the far northwestern portion of the Wyoming. Most of the territory that comprises Yellowstone National Park is located in Wyoming.

The Old Faithful Geyser, located in Yellowstone National Park is perhaps the world's most famous geyser. The geyser was named in 1870 by the Washburn Party and was the first geyser in the park to receive a name. An eruption can shoot 3,700 - 8,400 gallons (14,000 - 32,000 liters) of boiling water to a height of 106 - 184 feet (30 - 55m) lasting from 1 1⁄2 - 5 minutes. The intervals range from 65 - 92 minutes with 91 minutes being the average.  More than 137,000 eruptions have been recorded.

Wyoming is the least populous U.S. state with 493,782 people, although Alaska has a lower population density.

The first Dude Ranch in Wyoming was the Eaton Ranch, near Wolf. The Eaton's also came up with the term "dude"

     Dick Cheney - White House Chief of Staff to President Ford, U.S. congressman, Secretary of Defense and Vice president of the U.S.; grew up in Casper.
     William “Buffalo Bill” Cody - Founder of Cody, Wyoming and Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in Nebraska; born in Iowa.
     Curt Gowdy - Sportscaster, TV play-by-play man for AFL, NFL and major league baseball.
     Leonard S. Hobbs - Developed the engine for turbo jet airplanes; born in Carbon County.  
     Patricia MacLachlan - Author of children’s books and Newberry Medal for Sarah, Plain and Tall; born in Cheyenne.
     Esther Hobart Morris - Helped women receive the right to vote in Wyoming and the nation’s first female judge; born in New York.
     Jackson Pollock - Artist well known for his abstract paintings; born in Cody.
     Nellie Davis Tayloe Ross - Governor of Wyoming;  born November near St. Joseph, Missouri.
     Jedediah S. Smith - Mountain man and first American to get to California from the East.
     Alan K. Simpson - Wyoming senator from 1979-1997.
     Francis E. Warren - First state governor.
      James G. Watt - Former secretary of the Interior; born in Lusk.
